Former President John Dramani Mahama has launched a scathing critique of the current administration’s handling of Ghana’s economic challenges, emphasizing the growing hardships faced by ordinary citizens.
Speaking during his three-day tour of the Western Region at Daboase in the Wassa East District, Mahama particularly took aimed at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, accusing him of evading responsibility for the country’s woes.
Mahama expressed disapproval of the Vice President’s leadership style, accusing him of taking credit for the government’s perceived successes while blaming President Nana Akufo-Addo for its failures.
According to Mahama, this is indicative of a lack of accountability, which he sees as a cornerstone of effective governance.
“Under the current dire economic circumstances, if I were the Vice President, I would feel too embarrassed to stand before Ghanaians and ask for their votes,” Mahama stated, drawing applause from the audience.
He noted that leaders must own up to their administration’s achievements and failures, especially in times of crisis.
Mahama accused Dr. Bawumia of knowing that the situation in Ghana is untenable but still positioning himself as a candidate for the presidency.
“Every time Ghanaians complain about the hardships, the Vice President shifts blame to the President and claims credit for any perceived successes. This means even he knows things are not good,” Mahama observed.
Former President also warned Ghanaians against retaining the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in power.
He accused the party of prioritizing self-interest and amassing personal wealth at the expense of the country’s welfare.
“If the NPP is given another term, based on their current actions, they might one day sell the country,” Mahama remarked, urging Ghanaians to carefully consider their choices in the upcoming elections.
