A Ghanaian young man, Barima David Opei, has achieved an unfamiliar feat by staging a walk from Sankore in the Ahafo Region and ending it in Accra.

He completed the journey, on foot, from Sankore, in six days, covering a total of 90 hours, aimed at championing peace in the forthcoming 2024 general elections.

Mr. Opei achieved the feat in six days.

His journey began on Monday, November 18, at 3:24 AM, and was completed on Sunday, November 24, at 3:00 PM. His campaign was dubbed the “National Election Peace Walk 2024” with the slogan “Let’s Say No To War,” to ensure that there is absolute peace, before, during, and after the December 7th electoral process.

Speaking to the media at Obra Sports on Wednesday, November 27, Mr. Opei stated that as an advocate for peace in all his endeavors, he sought to use the “National Election Peace Walk 2024 ” exercise to preach peace to the Ghanaian youth going into the general elections.

According to him, this has been a long overdue ambition having taken the initiative three years ago, but financial difficulties shattered his dream, however, courtesy of the support of his team, his dream materialized in 2024.

Barima David Opei stressed his quest to ensure that the election is peaceful.

The exuberant young man who highlighted his priority for peace said, but for his love of the country, he would have withdrawn from trekking such a long-distance journey because he had pictured the difficulties involved.

“Peace and development of the country start from individuals, and everyone must help peace to prevail in Ghana before and after this year’s election. Sharing ideas does not mean we should be killing ourselves, because, even in the olden days of our politics, our forefathers did not cause chaos in the country. Then, why today?” he asked.

He emphasized and urged Ghanaians to desist from politics of insult to preach the peace we all seek during and after the election.

He also advised the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure professionalism in line with their duties as a way of maintaining peace and stability in the aftermath of the national exercise.

On his part, the financial of David Opei’s “National Election Peace Walk 2024” Dr. Augustine Yaw Gyasi commended the former for embarking on such a peaceful campaign tour and stressed the need for stakeholders and well-meaning Ghanaians to support others on a similar cause.

According to him, he prioritizes and supports anything peace, which is why, he decided to finance Mr. Opei to help attain a common goal.

He appealed “Let me use this opportunity to make a humble appeal to all the flagbearers of the political parties and other politicians that irrespective of any decision Ghanaians would make on the election day through voting, they should accept it in good faith for us to maintain and protect the peace we have,” added Dr. Yaw Gyasi who is also a businessman.

“Wherever you see an act of violence, it mostly involves the youth because they are being used by leaders so I’m advising them not to allow politicians to buy their conscience and cause riots as doing that would see them endanger their future,” he expressed and counseled the youth.
