Political science analyst, Boakye Yiadom, has made a bold statement about President Nana Akufo-Addo’s legacy, predicting a significant electoral impact on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) due to what he describes as poor governance and mismanagement.

Speaking on Angel 102.9FM and Angel TV in the ongoing political discourse surrounding this year’s elections, Mr Boakye Yiadom criticized the President for what he believes are failings that have tarnished the NPP’s reputation and weakened its standing. He warned that these perceived shortcomings could haunt Akufo-Addo beyond his tenure.

“Akufo-Addo will have a lot to answer when he joins the ancestral world and faces the Big Six. What account will he give when he meets the likes of Busia, Danquah, Obetsebi Lamptey, and others? How will he justify the current state of the Busia-Danquah tradition party? How will he justify this disgrace to the party,” he questioned on Monday, December 9, 2024.

He further lamented the reported election results, suggesting that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) might secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament. According to him, this would give the NDC sweeping powers, including the ability to amend the Constitution without resistance from the NPP.

“This is a disgraceful outcome for the NPP. The NDC now holds a two-thirds majority in Parliament. They could rewrite the Constitution entirely if they choose, and the NPP has no leverage to stop them,” he added.

Boakye Yiadom’s comments reflect growing concerns among political analysts and party faithful about the future of the NPP and its ability to recover from what many see as a challenging political period. As the political landscape evolves, questions about leadership, accountability, and party cohesion will likely dominate discussions heading into future elections. Whether the NPP can rebuild its legacy remains to be seen.
