Don’t expect paradise in Parliament – Hanna Bisiw to first-time MPs

Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw warned first-time MPs not to expect paradise in Parliament.

The workings and dynamics of parliamentary duties in the Ghanaian Parliament are demanding, so newly-elected Members of Parliament (MPs) should not expect an ideal situation within the legislative body, Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei has cautioned.

According to the National Women’s Organizer for the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, the reality of parliamentary work is not as easy as it may seem.

She asserted that holding the position of a Member of Parliament (MP) is challenging and demanding and advised them not to expect a paradise-like experience in the House.

“Don’t expect to see heaven in Parliament. The MP job requires a lot of resources, and members of Parliament shouldn’t expect paradise,” the former MP for Tano South said on the Angel Morning Show (AMS).

Dr. Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei gave this advice on Friday, January 10, 2025, during her interview with Saddick Adams, where she indicated that being elected as an MP comes with extreme demands.

“Assisting constituents with their everyday needs is one of the many sacrifices and challenges,” she said, emphasizing the tasks expected of an MP.

Dr. Bisiw also stated that she does not dream of re-seeking the position of an MP in her political career due to her past experiences.
