MP position is both challenging and demanding – Hanna Bisiw

The National Women’s Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hanna Louisa Bisiw-Kotei, has asserted that holding the position of a Member of Parliament (MP) is extremely difficult and challenging.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Saddick Adams on the Angel Morning Show (AMS), she emphasized numerous tasks that come with being a member of parliament, which are more than just fictional.

According to the former Tano South MP, despite her observation many Ghanaians do not comprehend MPs.

She explained that during her tenure as MP in 2012, MPs who were not ministers purchased their vehicles, provided vehicle maintenance, purchased petrol, and paid their personal security guards and drivers with their funds.

“Assisting constituents with their everyday needs is one of the many sacrifices and losses,” She indicated.

The NDC National Women’s Organiser remarked that everything is reliant on the member of parliament, and these tasks are carried out with the money MPs receive.

In her remarks, she emphasised her desire to advocate for MPs who are lawmakers of the country to also serve their numerous constituencies and their respective political parties, as well as their local government.

Hannah Bisiw in that regard conceded that she will never again pursue the position of an MP due to its nature, noting that “Never again will I contest for office as a member of parliament.”

She used the opportunity and advised all first-timer MPs of the 9th Parliament on their expectations going into the House to represent their various constituencies.

“Don’t expect to see heaven in parliament since the MP job requires a lot of resources, members of parliament shouldn’t expect paradise.”
