The Concerned Youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nkawkaw constituency are urging President John Dramani Mahama to appoint indigenous Kwahu individuals as Municipal Chief Executives.
In the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), the regional offices of the NDC have shortlisted three candidates, from which one will be selected as the Metropolitan or District Chief Executive (MDCE) by the president.
Speaking to Angel News correspondent Oheneba Siaw, the concerned youth expressed their dissatisfaction with the selection process, claiming that the regional office has been biased and has overlooked indigenous Kwahu candidates. They appealed to the president to consider local individuals to foster better development.
According to the youth, the typical Kwahu people have been excluded from the selection of MMDCEs, which they believe there have been manipulation at the regional level. They have sent their grievances to the current president of Ghana, urging him to take their concerns seriously for the betterment of the party.
“We’re concerned youth in Kwahu West. The truth is we’re not happy. When we look at the vetting processes and criteria used at the regional level, things did not go well. We were expecting qualified individuals who can effectively serve the Kwahu West Municipality, but we did not see them,” the concerned youth lamented.
They added that if the party fails to select indigenous Kwahu candidates, it could negatively impact the party in terms of customs and development. They reiterated their appeal for the inclusion of Kwahu people to help improve the party’s progress.
