The former chairperson and leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, has stated that the current President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, is the luckiest president in the country, having the resources to improve the school curriculum system.

Speaking during a panel discussion on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Friday, 28th February 2025, she stated that Mahama has all the necessary resources to govern effectively. However, she noted that posterity will judge him whether positively or negatively if Mahama fails to set the country on the right path.

Hajia Ibrahim explained that since 1992, every government that assumes office has made changes to the school curriculum, turning the education system into a political tool. She argued that instead of merely reviewing or altering the curriculum, efforts should be focused on genuine improvements.

“I will say and repeat it again, President Mahama is the luckiest president in this country… he can put things in order; posterity will judge him, whether positively or negatively. But I want us to judge him on the positive side because the changing is too much. If we improve it, fine. Ghanaians have an English word ‘review,’ which is the same as the word ‘change.’ To me, he should get everyone involved in education because education is my problem” she said.

She further stressed that when children receive proper education, they retain knowledge from their previous years. She added that the old school curriculum system was actually the best, though it was critical of politics. She added that in the past, there were diverse perspectives in the curriculum, but since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) began alternating in power, they have been manipulating Ghana’s school curriculum, ultimately hindering progress in the education sector.
