The Central Regional Education Director, Emmanuel Essuman, has raised concerns about the rising levels of hooliganism and indiscipline in second-cycle schools across the country.

Mr. Essuman stressed that parents play a vital role in partnering with school authorities to instill discipline in their children.

He emphasized that maintaining good behavior is a collective responsibility that should be upheld both at home and in school.

He made these remarks during the handover of a new 100-bed-capacity boys’ dormitory to Gyaase Senior High School in the Assin North District.

The donation, made by philanthropist and lecturer at the Ghana Communication Technology University, Dr. Joseph Akwasi Nkyi, includes 100 metal beds and newly built 10-seater toilet and washroom facilities, which will significantly enhance the living conditions for the students.

Dr. Joseph Akwasi Nkyi, who is an alumnus of the school, shared that he decided to support the school after learning of its challenges.

He recalled being a student at Gyaase in 1978 and expressed his hope that his contribution would inspire others to follow suit.

He also urged the school authorities to foster a culture of maintenance to ensure the building serves its purpose for years to come.

Headmaster of Gyaase Senior High School, Charles Buadu, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Nkyi for the generous donation, noting that the new dormitory has arrived at the perfect time.

Mr. Buadu also appealed for additional support to address the school’s other infrastructural needs.
