Takoradi Port: Stakeholders advocates for relocation of Oil and Gas Services

Management of Takoradi Port in the Western Region has proposed the relocation of oil and gas services from the Western Naval Command to the port, citing its strategic location and enhanced infrastructure as key advantages.

They believe this move will further strengthen the port’s role as a major hub in Ghana’s oil and gas industry.

According to Deputy Marketing and Public Affairs Manager, Eliasu Danitie Umaru, oil and gas exploration has been a “blessing” to the port, significantly increasing offshore vessel traffic and boosting revenue.

He emphasized that shifting oil and gas services to the port will optimize operations, enhance efficiency, and attract more investors.

“So it would be good if we get your good offices to help in the relocation so that they can operate from the right place required of them,” he said during a familiarization visit by Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson.

Mr. Umaru further highlighted the port’s growing capacity, urging government agencies to support the relocation.

He also called on the Minerals Commission to reconsider its policy restricting the delivery of explosives after 6:00 PM, arguing that it hampers port operations.

“As regional minister, you have my support, and we will see how to get that done together to solve some of the challenges you have highlighted. It is important that this port continues to grow both for industries and job creation.

“So as regional minister, I’m very much committed to seeing progress, I’ll be interested any day to see how these challenges are solved to make positive steps.”

As part of his visit, the Minister also toured other places such as the Takoradi Flour Mills and GHACEM to assess their operations firsthand.
