Assin Fosu: Teenager escapes lynching over alleged sodomy
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A 19-year-old man, reportedly from Kasoa Opeikuma, narrowly escaped being lynched in Assin Fosu after allegedly attempting to sodomise a fellow man.

According to reports, the suspect obtained the young man’s phone number from a WhatsApp group and contacted him, proposing a sexual encounter at a hotel in Assin Fosu.

The young man, who opposes homosexuality, agreed to meet but secretly organised a group of young men to confront the suspect.

Reports indicate that when the suspect arrived at the designated location, he was immediately subjected to a severe beating by the enraged mob. The suspect allegedly confessed to being gay and said to have expressed his desire to engage in sexual activity with the young man.

However, the timely intervention of the Assembly Member for the Trafo Electoral Area, Ibrahim Kankam Danso, prevented the suspect from being lynched.

He successfully rescued the suspect from the mob, although the man sustained bruises all over his body.

“The moment the boy from Kasoa got his contact proposing to him that he loves him, as he was talking and checking his age, it made the guy and his friends think differently.

“He was surprised, so he wanted to know if what the boy was saying was indeed true that someone his age could engage in such behaviour.

“This man from Assin Fosu involved him in further conversation until he made him come over so that they could do what the boy from Kasoa was requesting. This prompted the guy and his friends to team up to apprehend him,” the Assembly Member recounted.

According to Angel News reporter Shadrack Owusu, the suspect admitted to being involved in same-sex relationships for the past two years, having been introduced to the act by a friend during his time in secondary school, when he was allegedly motivated by financial struggles.
