‘Beware of fraudsters when purchasing a car – Yaw Nsiah cautions

Auto dealer and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nsiah Automobile, Nana Yaw Nsiah, has cautioned Ghanaians, particularly potential car buyers, to be vigilant when purchasing vehicles due to the alarming rise in car theft across the country.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Friday, May 9, 2025, he revealed that many fraudsters post cars online, significantly reducing their prices to lure unsuspecting buyers.

He explained that the reason for these artificially low prices is that the fraudsters hide trackers in the vehicles to monitor where the buyers take them. Subsequently, they trace the cars to steal them.

“They sell the cars at cheaper prices and later track the cars to steal them using spare keys.

“They steal these tracked cars, re-spray them, and resell them using different number plates,” he stated.

According to Mr. Nsiah, these criminals typically do not have garages from which they sell their cars, nor do they belong to any recognised automobile union.

He indicated that, they only post pictures of the vehicles on social media, providing their phone numbers for potential buyers to contact them.

Exposing their scamming strategy, he elaborated that they often suggest meeting locations such as hospitals or tertiary institutions as their access routes.

“When a car dealer tells you to meet him at a hospital or a school to make payment for a car so that you can receive it at that spot, do not fall victim; it’s a ploy he wants to use to defraud you,” he warned.

Mr. Nsiah then advised buyers to visit recognised garages to purchase their preferred or dream cars in order to avoid falling prey to the deceit of such vehicle fraudsters.
