I will beat Mahama hands down as NPP flagbearer – Kennedy Agyapong

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stop attributing their defeat to the bottom-to-top electoral structure.

He stated that their defeat stemmed from empowering individuals who he described as “monsters” in the party who made reckless decisions that ultimately had negative consequences.

Speaking to the NPP constituency chairmen during a conference held in Kumasi on Saturday, June 21, 2025, he reiterated that, if the party fails to thoroughly analyze the root cause of their defeat, they will continue to lose elections regardless of their choice of presidential candidate.

“There is nothing wrong with the system that we have from bottom: polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional, national and presidential; why you find something wrong is that, I’m telling you, if you like take it, if you don’t, so be it

“It is because we created monsters in the party and allowed them to take decisions anyhow that affected us, we need to solve this problem,” he asserted.

He emphasized that, the leadership they entrusted with power within the party ended up dismissing people at all levels-from regional to polling stations, for voicing out opinions that were not in their favor.

Mr. Ohene Agyapong further cautioned the party to prioritize resolving internal issues before rushing to select a presidential candidate, stressing that the presidential candidate alone could not fix the problems.

“We have to solve all internal problems before we rush to go and select a presidential candidate, honestly if we do not solve these problems and you think by electing a presidential candidate, he can solve the problems, I’m afraid, we are joking; the presidential candidate cannot solve the problems alone,” he reemphasized.

He urged the party to focus on introspection and unity, warning that failure to put in a collective effort and responsibility would jeopardize its future.
