Akim Swedru MP to Mahama: Make National Cathedral audit findings public
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Osei Nyarko, has taken to social media to demand transparency from President John Dramani Mahama regarding the long-awaited Deloitte audit report on the National Cathedral project.

In a post on Facebook, Mr. Nyarko accused sections of the media, political opponents, and even some Christians of fueling “deliberate and coordinated attacks” against former President Akufo-Addo’s administration based on distorted narratives surrounding the controversial project.

The MP asked “So why is everyone quiet on the National Cathedral Audit Report by Deloitte?”

“Is it because the findings in the report expose the hypocrisy of those Ghanaians who deliberately peddled distorted narratives against the Akufo-Addo Government?”

The MP alleged that the Deloitte audit, commissioned to probe the financial handling of the project, was handed to President John Mahama on May 7, 2025.

He further accused Mr. Mahama of sitting on the report, despite its findings clearing the previous government of wrongdoing.

“He should understand that we also have the same copy as he is holding. He should publish it,” the MP added, warning that the truth must be made public.

According to lawmaker, the report confirms that all funds allocated to the project remain intact in the National Cathedral Secretariat’s bank accounts, except for disbursements made to architects and civil engineers for preliminary work.

He also reiterated that the project’s suspension was due to a legal challenge filed by a private individual.

Blasting the silence from critics and media outlets that had previously raised concerns, the MP did not mince words.

“And those media that led these onslaughts are quiet because their mouths are full. And if you are a Christian and took part in these deliberate attacks and misinformation, you must be ashamed of yourself.”

The National Cathedral project, launched by former President Akufo-Addo in 2018 as a symbol of national unity and faith, has faced intense public scrutiny over cost, transparency, and prioritization during economic hardship.
