The Electoral Commission (EC) has assured the public and political stakeholders of a fair, transparent, and credible re-run of the parliamentary election in parts of the Ablekuma North Constituency.

This follows months of stalled collation efforts, disputes over polling station results, and unresolved security challenges.

The EC stated that the decision to rerun the election in 19 out of the 37 disputed polling stations was taken after extensive consultations and verification processes.

According to the Commission, as a mandatory requirement, they will supervise the re-run exercise on fair grounds without any compromise.

“We assure the public and the political parties that, as always, we will live by our motto and ensure that the rerun is fair, transparent and credible.”

In a statement, the EC dismissed allegations of external interference in its decision-making.

“The Commission’s attention has been drawn to unfounded accusations that it has been influenced by certain individuals to pursue the rerun,” said the EC on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

“We state categorically that Ghana’s Electoral Management Body (EMB) is independent and will not be dictated to by any person or institution.”

Ahead of the re-run scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, the EC expressed its confidence in the security arrangements provided by the Ghana Police Service and the National Election Security Taskforce.

“We trust that the NEST will provide the needed security before, during, and after the process so we can vote and work in peace,” the EC said.

The electoral body wished the two contestants, Awurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Akua Afriyie of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the best of luck at the polls.
