The fight against illegal mining continues to intensify, with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources disclosing significant nationwide enforcement outcomes under its latest Accountability Series update.
According to Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, a total of 425 excavators and related machinery have been seized across the country.
In a Facebook post, he quoted the Land Minister that 1,345 individuals have also been arrested, with prosecution efforts “steadily progressing” through the justice system.
He added the Forestry Commission has contributed notably to the crackdown, confiscating a range of equipment from illegal miners, including:
– 177 excavators
– 4 bulldozers
– 12 vehicles
– 43 motorcycles
– 155 pumping machines
– 184 changfangs
– 15 detector machines
– 10 heavy-duty generators
This update underscores the government’s sustained commitment to reversing the environmental degradation caused by illegal mining activities, while strengthening institutional accountability and public transparency.
