President John Dramani Mahama has described the absence of a regional hospital in the Oti Region as unacceptable, pledging swift government action to correct the situation.

Addressing residents during his Thank Tour in Dambai on Friday, July 25, 2025, the President said his administration is working with the Ghana Health Service and key development partners to establish a modern regional hospital in the area.

He explained that quality healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and every region deserves access to advanced medical care.

“Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right. Yet, the Oti Region remains one of the few without a regional hospital. I find this unacceptable,” Mahama said.

He added that the planned hospital will be fully equipped to deliver specialist and emergency services and reduce pressure on existing facilities in Ho and Tamale.

“We are actively engaging with stakeholders, including the Ghana Health Service and development partners, to establish a fully equipped regional hospital in the Oti Region. This facility will provide specialist and emergency care, relieving the pressure on hospitals in Ho and Tamale,” he stated.

The regional hospital forms part of a broader health policy under the government’s Universal Primary Healthcare Programme, which aims to boost access and improve healthcare outcomes nationwide.
