The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Parliamentary Caucus has expressed deep concern over the recent surge in violent crimes within the Ashanti Region, describing the situation as alarming and calling for urgent action from national security authorities.

In a statement issued on July 26, 2025, the caucus highlighted the brutal killing of the Kusasi Chief of Asawase in his residence, followed closely by the murder of his brother.

According to the statement, these acts are not isolated incidents but part of a growing trend that poses a serious threat to public safety.

“We are not making demands for special treatment. We are demanding what every Ghanaian deserves: protection, swift justice, and a state that responds when lives are at risk,” the statement said.

The caucus called on the Ashanti Regional Security Council, led by the Regional Minister, to intensify its efforts and implement robust and proactive security measures.

It further urged the Inspector General of Police to treat the recent killings with the urgency they deserve.

“To the Minister for the Interior, whose own constituency is directly affected, this is the time to lead with presence and action. Moments like this define leadership. Silence is not an option,” the caucus emphasized.

The caucus outlined three key demands: “A full criminal investigation into the recent murders with timely and transparent updates to the public.

“Deployment of adequate police personnel and intelligence resources to safeguard vulnerable communities.

“A clear and public commitment from the Ministry of the Interior and the Police Service on measures being taken to prevent further violence,” it suggested.

The statement stressing that the current security crisis requires national responsibility rather than partisan responses.

“We will continue to raise our voices, not for political gain, but because our people deserve to live without fear,” it added.

The statement was signed by Vincent Ekow Assafuah Esq., Secretary of the NPP Ashanti Parliamentary Caucus.
