The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested four suspected criminals and killing another in two separate operations this month.
In a press release dated Tuesday, July 22, 2025, the Command revealed that the first operation occurred on July 9, 2025, after police received a distress call indicating a robbery in progress along the Ankaako-Asuoso-Fenaso road in the Amansie Central District.
Four armed men were reportedly blocking the road and robbing commuters.
The police patrol team swiftly responded, spotting the suspects who attempted to flee on motorbikes. Officers gave chase, intercepted the robbers, and arrested all four.
They are as follows; Rahman Alhassan, 27; Nurudeen Fatawu, 25; Naafewu Masahud, 22; and Yaw Saaka, 42. One pump-action gun, twenty rounds of AAA ammunition, a sword, and a string of talisman were retrieved from them.
The second operation unfolded on Tuesday, July 22, at Abedwum, a suburb of Obuasi, where the police acted on intelligence about a robbery in progress.
The Obuasi divisional operations team pursued the armed suspects into a forest, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. One suspect was gunned down, while others, believed to have sustained injuries, managed to escape.
A search of the deceased suspect’s backpack uncovered fourteen rounds of live ammunition and other incriminating items.
The police are urging the public to report individuals with suspicious wounds, potentially sustained from gunfire, and to assist law enforcement by providing credible information on criminal activity.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, who signed the statement, commended the swift action of officers and reiterated the Police Service’s commitment to safeguarding residents in the Ashanti South Region.
