Book of condolences opens for plane crash victims

Government has announced a five-day period for signing books of condolences in honour of the eight victims who died in the recent military helicopter crash.

According to President John Dramani Mahama, the gesture is part of a national effort to pay tribute to the departed officials.

“Books of condolences will be open simultaneously at the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Environment Science and Technology the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters and the National Democratic Congress Headquarters and also the Head Office of NADMO from Sunday 10th August to Thursday 14th August,” he announced.

He indicated that in addition to the condolence signing, there would be a memorial gathering on August 9 at the Forecourt of the State House.

“On Saturday night August at 5:00 PM the nation will gather at the Forecourt of the State House for an evening of reflection and memorial in honor of our departed colleagues.”

Meanwhile, the president also announced plans to hold a befitting state funeral.

“On Friday the 15th August an interdenominational state funeral will be held for the 8 heroes at the Black Stars Square.”
