Two individuals are currently battling for their lives at the Nkawkaw Family Hospital following an accident on Wednesday morning, August 20, 2025, that occurred after a rear-end collision on the Accra-Kumasi highway.
The vehicles involved, a container truck with registration number ER-2599-13 and a Toyota Saloon car with registration number GR-5122-22, at Kwahu Onokwa, near the popular Kookoase Chop Bar on the section of the busy Accra-Kumasi highway.
According to reports, the incident followed an earlier accident involving a tipper truck with registration number AS-4675-19, loaded with stone chippings. The truck had veered off the road, with its rear in the bush and its front partly on the highway.
Oheneba Siaw of Angel News, reporting from the scene, stated that while driving towards Kumasi, the chipping tipper truck attempted to avoid colliding with a bus in the opposite direction.
In an attempt to salvage the situation, the driver lost control, causing the truck to capsise and block part of the highway.
He continued that as residents and passersby rushed to help clear the road, the Toyota saloon car, upon noticing the obstruction, slowed down.
However, events took a tragic turn when the container truck, with registration number ER-2599-13 and reportedly speeding, collided with the Toyota saloon car from behind, forcing it into the already capsised chipping truck.
Two occupants of the Toyota were initially feared dead but were rushed to the Nkawkaw Family Hospital. Health professionals later confirmed that they survived and are receiving treatment.
