The Ghana National Gas Company has completed its planned maintenance works at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant ahead of the scheduled 14 days, a development seen as a major boost for the country’s energy sector.
The exercise, which began earlier this month, was expected to span two weeks.
However, the maintenance and technical teams wrapped up the project earlier than anticipated and officially handed over the facility to the operations unit on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
The scope of work covered three key areas critical to plant efficiency and safety, including servicing of the heat medium system, calibration of safety systems, and the overhaul of the transmission compressor.
Acting General Manager of Engineering and Maintenance, Mr. Maxwell Kali, expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the exercise, emphasizing that the project was executed safely without any lost time injury.
He explained that while the maintenance works have been completed, the activities do not end there, as his team will continue to provide technical support to ensure stable operations and increased throughput.
Mr. Kali further noted that this commitment aligns with the Minister of Energy and Green Transition’s directive for increased gas flow. He assured that the maintenance team will remain on standby to support operations in achieving this objective.
Sharing an update on the restart process, Acting General Manager of Operations, Mr. Sampson Doe, said the operations team has already taken over the facility and initiated a phased start-up.
He explained that the plant is currently receiving small volumes of gas to warm up and pressurize the system while leak tests are conducted to ensure all open points are properly sealed.
He added that the newly overhauled transmission compressor is being tested, and once it is fully operational, gas flow will be increased to test all systems at the terminal processing department.
He further explained that the heater system will also be stepped up once there is sufficient flow, stressing that the initial start-up process has been smooth over the past two days and is expected to continue without major challenges.
Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas, Ms. Judith Adjobah Blay, praised the team for their dedication and professionalism, describing their efforts as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to operational excellence and national development.
She said the hard work and collaboration of the maintenance and technical staff were the driving force behind the achievement, adding that completing the project ahead of schedule reflects not only efficiency but also passion and teamwork within Ghana Gas.
