Lawyer Bernard Baidoo Bediako of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has captured the Akwatia Constituency seat for the ruling party.
This notable victory for the NDC was secured when Lawyer Bediako, as he is affectionately known, emerged as a winner in the by-election held on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
He triumphed over the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, in a tightly contested race across 119 polling stations within the constituency where the total ballots cast of 33,819 were valid, while 303 were rejected.
Lawyer Bediako garnered 18,199 votes while Mr. Asumadu received 15, 235 votes accounting for 2, 964 differences.
Meanwhile, the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) representatives Owusu Patrick had 82 votes.
With this outcome, the NDC reclaims the seat that has become a swing from the NPP.
The position had remained vacant for several months following the passing of the former Member of Parliament, Ernest Kumi, whom the NPP had hoped to replace.
