A fire has destroyed the belongings of a 45-year-old single mother of four, Afia Nsowaa, at Assin Dansame in the Assin North District.
The fire, which occurred in the middle of the night, gutted the storeroom that also served as the family’s kitchen.
The entire contents, including her children’s clothes, school uniforms, cooking utensils, and an undisclosed amount of money, were completely lost. Fortunately, no lives were lost.

Nsowaa explained that she and her children had been temporarily living in an uncompleted building nearby while keeping their belongings in the affected storeroom.
According to her, she received a distress call during the night and rushed to the scene, but all attempts to extinguish the fire were unsuccessful. By the time help arrived, everything had been consumed by the flames.
The incident left the family visibly shaken, as they were unable to salvage any of their belongings due to the intensity of the fire.

Ms. Nsowaa appealed to the public and charitable organisations for urgent support, including food, clothing, and shelter for her children.
“We were sleeping and my elder son was like mama and when I went to open the window and I saw that our kitchen has been burnt and can’t even enter.
“All my dress has been burnt including my cooking utensils, my money infact everything is burnt,” she recounted.

The District National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Coordinator, Mr. Edward Fireson, and his team have visited the site to assess the damage.
He advised the public to always observe safety precautions to prevent such incidents.
