The Chiefs and people of the Fodzoku Traditional Area of the Volta Region, have decried the prolonged lack of drinking water in the community spanning a period of over 15 years.

Speaking on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the launch of this year’s Gligba Festival, the Manklalo of Fodzoku, Togbe Kwasi Misrobi III indicated that, for over a decade-and-a-half, the community has not seen water flow through their pipes due to a purported fault at the booster station at Akuse, which supplies water to the community and surrounding towns.Fodzoku Gligbaza 2025

Fodzoku, which is in the North Tongu District, is one of the many communities affected following the construction of the Kpong Hydro-electric Dam to boost power generated from the Akosombo Dam for subsequent distribution to Accra, the national capital as well as other parts of the country.

According to Togbe Misrobi III several attempts and appeals to have the Ghana Water Company and the Volta River Authority address this dire concern, have fallen on deaf ears, leaving residents with no option than depend on rivers and other nearby water bodies for water to perform household chores.

The Assemblyman for the Adafe Electoral Area, Franklin Afelete, described the situation as a threat to their health as the residents sometimes share water from the same source with grazing animals.

Apart from that, Mr. Afelete said many government officials, including teachers and nurses, sometimes decline posting to the area due to lack of potable drinking water and bad nature of town roads and those leading to the town itself.
