Germany and Bayern Munich’s legendary goalkeeper, Manuel Peter Neuer, has been a great inspiration to me, Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has disclosed.
Asare revealed that the exploits and talent of the 39-year-old German stopper played an instrumental role in his early development.
Neuer is considered one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, known for his exceptional reflexes, command of his backline, and impressive distribution skills, traits that define the modern-day goalkeeper.
In a recent interview after guiding Ghana to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Asare acknowledged the greatness of Neuer in shaping his rise to stardom.
According to the 33-year-old skipper of Accra Hearts of Oak, these traits helped him positively to build his craft as a goalkeeper while growing up.
“Neuer has always been the goalkeeper that I look up to right from my early days when I was developing my craft. The way he kicks, communicates and generally how he conducts himself within the box is what I wanted to emulate.,” the former Great Olympics man said further.
