Ghana’s education system overly focused on examinations worrying – Educate Africa Institute

William Boadi

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Educate Africa Institute, William Boadi, has criticized Ghana’s education system for being overly focused on examinations.

Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AMS) on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, regarding the decline in the 2025 WASSCE results, he noted that the system employs a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach.

“From kindergarten to primary, JHS, and SHS, education is solely based on examinations to progress to the next level. There’s no other means; our system is a one-size-fits-all education system, equally exam-centric,” he stated.

According to him, the education system is designed in a way that forces students into roles they may not desire.

“When you examine our education system, it’s pushing students to become what they don’t desire,” he said.

Mr. Boadi emphasized the need for an education system that helps students discover their strengths and manage their skills to shape their own futures.

“The system should be designed to help us discover and manage our skills so we can live our own lives and create our own worlds,” he added.

He asserted that while students may struggle with WASSCE results, this does not define their overall capabilities and potential in life.

“The children have not failed; they have only failed in their WASSCE exams, but not in life. They are capable, and their potential goes beyond WASSCE results,” he emphasized.

He highlighted that this is a wake-up call, for us to stop forcing our learners to become what they don’t want.
