The Central North Regional Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the death of 40-year-old George Anim, who allegedly died while in police custody at the Twifo Praso District Police Station on Friday, November 28, 2025.

George Anim, a native of Assin Swedru Akuapem, was arrested on Tuesday, November 25, over allegations of defilement.

He was initially detained at the Assin Awisam Police Station before being transferred to Twifo Praso to face court proceedings. Tragically, he was later reported dead in the police cells.

In a bid to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Central North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, together with the Regional Crime Officer, paid a visit to the bereaved family.

The Commander expressed condolences and assured them of a thorough, fair, and transparent investigation.

To relieve the family of financial pressure, DCOP Acquaye announced that the police would bear the full cost of the autopsy.

The police team also visited the Assin Awisam and Twifo Praso Police stations, where the deceased was previously held, as well as the Twifo Praso Government Hospital morgue.

These visits form part of efforts to gather key facts, particularly in response to reports that bruises were found on the deceased’s body.

Earlier, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, dispatched a 10-member delegation led by the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Commander, ACP Dr. Asare Nyarkoh to visit the family and offer support.

DCOP Acquaye urged the public and the community to remain calm while the investigation continues, assuring them of transparency and accountability.

A family elder, Nana Larbi Danquah, commended the police for the visit and pledged the family’s full cooperation to support the investigative process.
