The former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asunafo South, Frank Aduse Poku, has issued a stern warning to Ghanaian politicians, emphasizing that respect for elders is a true reflection of character; therefore, they have a responsibility to exercise decorum in their utterances.
He further warned that political discourse must be conducted with greater respect, especially during political campaigns.
His remarks were in response to comments made by a Communications Team Member of Kennedy Agyapong, Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempah, that flagbearer hopeful Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is not fit to reclaim power for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on the Angel Morning Show (AM), Mr. Aduse Poku stressed that political discussions should not be reduced to personal attacks or insults, particularly against people in authority or elders in society.
“Are we doing politics to help Ghana progress or to insult and defame others?” he questioned.
Mr. Aduse Poku concluded by urging all political actors to reflect on their words and actions, stating, “We are all part of the country’s current state, and we must be very careful.”
He further added that the way people speak about elders is a reflection of their home training and upbringing.
