The lawmaker for the people of Wassa Amenfi Central in the Western Region, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has opined that leadership should be measured by practical impact rather than the prestige of holding higher positions.
She believes that leadership, whether attained through election or appointment, must be grounded in service and responsibility to others rather than the mere acquisition of titles.
“I believe that when you talk about leadership it’s not just being a leader in parliament or in politics even in your church, your home, the role you played there makes you a leader. I believe that being a leader doesn’t really start from just becoming a member of parliament, everywhere you find yourself. Actually, every good leader has a team.”
Mr.s Cudjoe made the statement on TV3’s Afternoon Show on the subject “Leadership to Entrepreneurship; Different Shades of Joana” on Thursday, December 2025.
She explained that leadership, in her view, is about inclusiveness and empathy, stressing that her approach in parliament and governance is to unite people and understand their perspectives.
“So my leadership in parliament, my leadership in governance, I believe that I try to bring people together and understand their perspective on what they think about life, why they are behaving in a certain direction or a certain way and if there’s something that I can do to impact or touch in their life I do it.”
According to the first-time Member of Parliament, she sees her leadership in a more human-centered dimension, likening it to roles that require listening, guidance, and care.
“My leadership is more like a leader, it’s like a religious leader or a pastor and a doctor who listens to you when you go to a hospital where the doctor has to look at you and prescribe what you need and that’s how I see my leadership role.
“It’s very good and it’s exciting because I hear a lot of good comments about my leadership,” she said further and highlighted her impactful leadership through developing Amenfi Central.
