A 14-year-old boy, Matthew Mahama, has drowned in a river at Fiapre Catholic Junction on the Sunyani Ring Road in the Bono Region.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the incident on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 8:51am, and a rescue team led by STNO II Clement Takyi from the Sunyani Municipal Fire Station retrieved the body.

The lifeless body was handed over to the Ghana Police Service for preservation and further investigation.

The Service has extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and urged the public to exercise extreme caution around water bodies.
The GNFS reiterated its commitment to public education on drowning prevention and responding swiftly and professionally to emergencies to save lives.
