The Queenmother of Abamba, a farming community in Atebubu in the Bono East Region, Nana Serwaa Gyan Kuma, has been shot dead at her private residence by unknown assailants.

The deceased, operator of ‘Ohemaa’s Kitchen’, a popular food and drinking spot at Atebubu, was shot dead on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, when she was returning home.

Reports suggest she was escorted by her male assistant, who later heard gunshots and rushed back only to find her lying in a pool of blood.

Eyewitness accounts indicated she was shot about five times, sustaining injuries to her back, hands, and other parts of her body, while the assailants sped off on a motorbike.

The Ghana Police Service visited the scene and conveyed the queenmother’s body to the mortuary as investigations commenced into the circumstances surrounding the killing.

Residents are calling on authorities to act promptly to bring the perpetrators to justice.
