‎‎The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has emerged as the winner of this year’s Commonwealth Day National Debate Competition, held at the Parliament House of Ghana on Monday, March 9, 2026.

The debate was organized under the theme “Unlocking Opportunities Together for a Prosperous Commonwealth,” highlighting the importance of collaboration among member states of the Commonwealth of Nations.

The competition brought together students from six universities across Ghana, including Central University, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University for Development Studies (UDS), University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), University of Media, Arts and Communication, and the University of Ghana.

Representing UniMAC at the competition were Titus Owusu Darko, who served as the Principal Speaker, and Precious Akos Agrobesa, the Supporting Speaker. The duo debated against the motion: “Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in the Commonwealth truly translates into real economic opportunities for its university graduates.”
‎
‎Participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions focused on the role of young people in strengthening partnerships and promoting shared prosperity within the Commonwealth community.
‎
‎At the end of the competition, the judges commended the finalists for their confidence, critical thinking, and clear presentation of ideas, noting that the debate demonstrated the growing capacity of young leaders to contribute meaningfully to global conversations on development and cooperation.
