New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member, Ellen Ama Daaku, has stepped in to settle the debt of the woman assaulted by microfinance staff during a loan recovery operation at Ashongman Estate.
The victim, Hagar Emaser, aged 42, was reportedly assaulted by four workers of Bills Microfinance, from which she had obtained a loan facility.
Reports suggest that the incident happened over an amount believed to be GHC300.
Madam Daaku demonstrated a generous and kind gesture by settling the debt on national television – Angel TV, when she appeared on the station’s flagship morning show on Monday, March 16, 2026.
The politician and entrepreneur paid GHC400 to the host of the show, Saddick Adams, and emphasised that since the condemnable action was tied to the debt, she sought to pay the arrears.
“You assaulted the woman because of GHC300. If because of GHC300 you can push a woman carrying a child down like that, then Bills Micro finance, please I’m paying off the debt for the woman; this morning I will leave it to Saddick Adams, so come for it,” she stated, occasioning a presentation of the money to the journalist.
She highlighted that while every credit company has the right to reclaim their money from debtors, such actions should never involve assault.
Daaku further condemned the incident as a total assault, particularly against a woman with a baby.
She noted that Bills Microfinance had attempted to downplay the situation by stating that the woman “just unfortunately fell.”
Daaku criticised the treatment the woman received, stating that this was not an isolated incident and that numerous others have lodged complaints about similarly terrible treatment from the same credit company.
“But yesterday the treatment they gave to the woman was not good, and this is not the first time I have been hearing many people complaining that they have been treated terribly in the same issues; even the fuel they used will be more than the debt.” She reiterated.
