The Task-Force of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has destroyed chanfang machines and floating boats along the Ankobra River at Gwira Banso in the Nzema East District after conducting a series of raids against illegal miners operating.
The raid exercise took place on Monday, March 16, 2026, between 0900hrs and 1630hrs.
The operation did not result in any arrest as the miners fled the scene on sighting them. Meanwhile, massive destruction of their tools and equipment, including several Changfan machines and improvised floating boats, was undertaken.
Approximately 50 metres across the River, the task force also identified some makeshift structures used as shelters by the illegal miners.
A thorough search was conducted of the structures, after which they were destroyed to prevent further use.
Two generator sets were retrieved and seized from the site by the NAIMOS team.
The crackdown forms part of sustained NAIMOS offensives that resumed earlier this month to help curb illegal mining activities on and along the banks of the Ankobra River to prevent its further pollution.
