Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase in the Ashanti Region and Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has donated over 10,000 desks to schools in Asawase constituency to ensure that every child has proper furniture to sit on in class.
Speaking to the media after delivering the mono desks, he stated that his hope is to ensure that no school in Asawase will have situations where students are forced to share desks due to a shortage of furniture.
“So technologically we have just given out over 10,000 furnitures to cover almost every child who originally did not have a seat,” he said.
He explained that the distribution exercise focused first on secondary schools before extending support to basic schools within the constituency.
According to him, the approach this time was different as authorities consulted the schools to determine their specific furniture needs rather than supplying desks without assessing their requirements.
He noted that more than 5,600 desks were distributed to six secondary schools in Asawase to ensure that every student has a seat.
“For example, with the secondary school, about six secondary schools, we ended up giving them almost 5,600 desks to make sure that every student in our secondary school has a seat to sit, not that we are just managing,” he revealed.
He added that after assessing the needs of basic schools, about 4,400 desks were also distributed to 78 basic schools across Asawase.
“And then we came to the basic schools, as you know we have about 78 basic schools in Asawase and then we tried to go round to find out what their requirements are and thank God we were able to give them almost 4,400 furnitures,” he dísclosed.
He further noted that over the years his focus has been to ensure that educational infrastructure in Asawase does not suffer deficits, adding that no basic school in the constituency currently operates in wooden structures after efforts were made to replace them with better facilities.
