President John Dramani Mahama has announced five nominees to serve on Ghana’s Fiscal Council, in line with the Public Financial Management Act.
The nominees are; Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah (Chairperson), Prof. Patrick Opoku Asuming (Representative from academia), and Leslie Dwight Mensah (Representative from a research think tank).
The rest are J. Kweku Bedu-Addo (Former public policy expert from the Ministry of Finance) and Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah (Former public policy expert from the Bank of Ghana).
The nominations are pursuant to Section 11D of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended by Act 1136 of 2025.
In a statement signed by Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Fiscal Council is mandated to strengthen oversight of government finances, promote fiscal discipline, and provide independent advice on public financial management.
According to the statement, the Council will play a critical role in shaping sound fiscal decision-making and ensuring transparency in the management of public resources.
