Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Petroleum Authority ( NPA), Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has announced his intention to contest the position of National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when nominations open.
In a statement titled “Response to a Clarion Call!”, the former NPA boss said, persistent calls from the rank and file of the party had urged him to place his experience, institutional memory, and strategic insight at the disposal of the party’s revival.
He noted that he had listened to the carion calls and therefore deemed it necessary to officially declare his intent to contest the aforementioned position.
“Therefore, I hereby formally announce my decision to vie for the position of the National Vice Chairman when nominations open. This is not an ambition born of personal gain, but a desire to give back to the party, what it has invested in me,” he said further.
He recounted his long history of service, noting that he was a founding member of the UCC branch of the NPP in 1992, and was present at Victoria Park in Cape Coast when the transition from the Danquah-Busia Club to the NPP was signaled on 18th May 1992.
He highlighted his past contests for National Organizer in 2001 and General Secretary in 2005, as well as his tenure as the first elected National Youth Organizer of the party.
Mustapha Hamid also referenced his service as Spokesperson for Candidate Akufo-Addo for ten years and as Deputy National Campaign Manager in the 2020 election.
Against this backdrop, he added, “I have been forged in the fire of battle. I have won some and lost some. I have the scars to show.”
He described himself as a scholar with “intellectual firepower” to support the party’s leadership, pledging to help re-strategize, rebuild, and reorganize the party.
“Together, we shall re-strategize, rebuild, and re-organize and return this party to its rightful place in leadership. The battle to recover our nation begins from within. Victoria Ascerta!” the statement reads.
