Actress and social media personality, Akuapem Poloo, has revealed how stepping away from twerking on social media has positively transformed her image, opportunities, and income.
While speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo, the actress shared that her decision to stop twerking about four years ago has earned her more respect, particularly among influential individuals.
“I’ve gained respect when I stopped twerking on social media. When grown people see me in town, they get closer to me, and especially when they have programmes, they invite me,” she said.
According to her, the change has also reflected in the type of engagements she now attracts. She explained that while her earlier lifestyle brought attention and endorsement deals, her current rebranded image has opened doors to more corporate opportunities.
“The ones that I can go now, I’ve gained respect. I’m getting money and I’m okay with it. I have stopped twerking for about four years now,” she added.
Akuapem Poloo admitted that although things were initially lucrative during her twerking days, her focus has now shifted to more structured and professional deals.
“When I used to twerk, things were good for me because I was signing deals, but now I sign corporate deals,” she noted.
She also recounted some unexpected moments from her past, including receiving an invitation to meet Jamaican musician Gramps Morgan during his visit to Ghana.
“Even when Gramps Morgan came to Ghana, I didn’t even know I would get an invitation,” she revealed.
Touching on her international exposure, the actress mentioned an encounter with American rapper Cardi B, stating that their interaction extended beyond a brief meeting.
“When I twerked with Cardi B, she took my number and we started talking. He motivates me,” she said.
