The government, through diplomatic channels, has expressed its intention to honour Christina Hammock Koch, the only female astronaut on the Artemis II mission, who studied at the University of Ghana.
The honour follows after four astronauts: Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen; embarked on the Artemis II mission, marking the first crewed lunar flyby in over 50 years.

In a statement by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, he revealed that President Mahama will represent the people of Ghana in celebrating her achievement and Ghanaian association.
Mr. Ablakwah congratulated the Artemis II astronauts on their historic mission; the farthest human journey from Earth with a safe return.
He highlighted the scientific and inspirational significance of the mission, noting that it showcases human ingenuity and courage.

The Minister further praised Ms. Koch’s accomplishment, celebrating her link to Ghana and inspiring national pride in her scientific feat.
