The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that Ghana aims to achieve 80 per cent health coverage by 2030 under the Free Primary Healthcare policy.
He made the announcement on Monday, April 13, 2026, during the Government Accountability Series, ahead of the official launch of the Free Primary Healthcare policy.
Mr. Akandoh described it as a transformative reform aimed at expanding access to healthcare while shifting focus toward preventive and community-based services.
He explained that the policy will eliminate financial barriers at the point of care by offering free access to a defined package of essential health services at the primary level.
According to him, these services will be delivered through Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, health centres, and polyclinics across the country.
The Minister also outlined the scope of services under the policy, noting that it will ensure equitable access to essential healthcare, particularly at the community level.
