The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has said that government will distribute 24,534 pieces of medical equipment nationwide under the Free Primary Healthcare policy expected to be rolled out.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series ahead of the official launch scheduled for April 15, 2026, the Minister said the initiative is aimed at ensuring that health facilities across the country are adequately equipped.
Mr. Akandoh added that empowering these facilities will help to deliver improved and expanded primary healthcare services.
The equipment includes critical medical items such as incubators for neonatal care, glucometers for diabetes screening and management, hospital beds to enhance patient care capacity, and ultrasound machines to strengthen diagnostic services, particularly in maternal healthcare.
The Minister indicated that government has completed the full costing of the Free Primary Healthcare policy, estimating that it will require at least GHS 1.2 billion annually to sustain its implementation.
He explained that the financial requirements have been carefully projected and broken down to ensure realistic planning for the rollout.
