Rapper and songwriter, Okyeame Kwame, has shared a deeply personal story about his struggles growing up, revealing how music transformed his life and helped him overcome challenges with learning.

Speaking during an interview, the veteran artiste disclosed that as a child, he had difficulty understanding what he was taught in school due to a condition known as Dyslexia. According to him, this led to constant teasing from others.

“During the time I was young, when I learn I don’t comprehend. I had a learning situation called dyslexia and because of that they used to tease me that ‘w’abon, w’abon,’” he recounted.

Despite these early struggles, Okyeame Kwame said discovering music, particularly rap became a turning point in his life. He explained that it did not only help him gain acceptance among his peers but also boosted his confidence.

“But when I started rapping, ladies started liking me and people started liking me too, and I developed my confidence,” he said.

The award-winning musician emphasized that music has gone beyond just a career for him, describing it as a powerful tool that gave him both identity and purpose.

“Music didn’t only help in my livelihood but rather gave me a voice and a face. And now everyone knows me here in Ghana,” he added.

Okyeame Kwame also highlighted how his success in music has enabled him to pursue meaningful projects, including plans to build a pediatric emergency unit, an initiative he says is rooted in the opportunities music has provided him.

“If not music, how will I say I’m 50 and I’m building a pediatric emergency unit? Everything about Okyeame Kwame now is about music,” he stated.
