A fire broke out at the Kejetia Dubai market in Kumasi, destroying one shop and affecting over 20 others.
The incident occurred at around 8:25 am on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Gate 4, with a shop selling items like matches, candles, and silver shine catching fire.
President of the Federation of Kumasi Traders, Nana Akwasi Prempeh attributed the spread of the fire to insufficient water pipes in the market, making it difficult for firefighters to respond effectively.
“We’ve been complaining about the water supply, and it’s really hindering our efforts to fight fires,” he said.
Firefighters have since brought the situation under control.
Prempeh is now calling on market authorities and the government to resource the fire station and implement proper security measures to prevent future incidents.
