GAF compensates 3 injured UN Peacekeepers with $43,120

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has presented financial compensation to 3 United Nations Peacekeepers who sustained injuries in the line of duty at the Command Mess, Burma Camp on Tuesday April 21, 2025.

The beneficiaries are Warrant Officer Class Two (WOII) Ocran Alfred, Staff Sergeant (S/SGT) Arddey Oblie Solomon and Sergeant (SGT) Kornu Eric Romeo, who received a total of $43,120 in recognition of their sacrifice and dedication to international peacekeeping operations.

WOII Ocran Alfred, who was injured while serving in Lebanon under UNIFIL GH 89, received $30,03 while Staff Sergeant Arddey Oblie Solomon, who was wounded during deployment in Mali with MINUSMA GHANENGRCOY 10, received $6,160.

Meanwhile, Sergeant Kornu Eric Romeo, who sustained injuries in South Sudan while serving with UNISFA GH 1 also received $6,930.

Presenting the funds on behalf of the Military High Command, the Director General of Human Resources at General Headquarters, Commodore Francis Nyarko, commended the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces for what he described as a timely and compassionate intervention.

He emphasised that the sacrifices of the soldiers would never be overlooked, reaffirming GAF’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel both at home and in operational theatres.

He further noted that the financial support serves not only as relief but also as a symbol of national gratitude for the soldiers’ courage, dedication and selfless service.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, WOII Ocran Alfred expressed profound appreciation to the Military High Command.

He stated that the support had brought relief to them and their families, while also strengthening their sense of belonging and pride in serving the nation.

The ceremony was attended by the Director General (DG), Defence Finance Controller, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Salifu Osumanu, the Acting DG, Department of Public Relations, Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, some Senior Officers and representatives from the three arms of service, as well as some family members.
