Nigerian music star, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P and one half of the iconic duo P-Square, has sparked reactions after announcing a personal decision to change the date he celebrates his birthday.
In a message addressed to his family, friends, and fans, the singer revealed that he will no longer mark his birthday on November 18, opting instead for November 30. He emphasized that the decision is personal and requested understanding from his supporters.
“Dear Family, Friends, and Fans,
I’m making it official. November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date. Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day.
My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th. This is a personal decision, and I truly appreciate your understanding.
Thank you all,” he wrote.
The announcement comes amid an ongoing feud with his twin brother, Paul Okoye, widely known as Rudeboy. The pair, who rose to continental and global fame as P-Square, have experienced a strained relationship over the years, marked by public disagreements surrounding management, finances, and creative direction.
Despite a much celebrated reunion in 2021, the brothers’ partnership once again fell apart, with recent tensions escalating following claims by Rudeboy that Mr P played a role in his invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Amid the renewed friction, Mr P has continued to focus on his solo career, highlighting the importance of personal peace and artistic independence.
