Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Krobea Asante, has condemned South African protesters for chasing and assaulting foreign nationals.

Speaking on Angel FM’s ‘Anopa Bofo’ on Thursday, April 23, 2026, he said the conduct was “barbaric” and “against humanity.”

Asante emphasised that even when someone enters a country illegally, the law outlines the proper way to sanction them.

He stressed that beating and assaulting Ghanaians and other African foreign nationals during protests is unacceptable particularly when protesters use weapons such as belts and wires.

“It is very barbaric, it is unacceptable, even if there is a an illegal immigrant or someone enters your country in a wrong way that is against your law, the law piscribes sanctions that should be given to the person.

“And I don’t think in the 21st century there are sanctions which you will be beating such people with belt and wire, look at the things they using in beating the Ghanaians and other black foreigners,” he stated.

He added that in Ghana today, many foreign companies generating significant revenue include South African businesses, citing Gold Fields Damang and MTN, as well as numerous organisations owned by South Africans.

He questioned what the outcome would be if Ghanaians were to respond in the same way.

Mr Asante urged that countries should be mindful that such assaults and slavery-like actions are unacceptable and must end.

He further called on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to intervene and help resolve the matter before it escalates between the two countries.

“This is the time Okudzeto Ablakwa should show his powers that he is a man and find ways to resolve this issues, he should let us know that we have a certain foreign minister whom we can trust, this is where we need to see his appreciation about international issues,” he said.

He added: “If I’m a Ghanaian and I see these people beating my people with wire and belt what do you think I will do to the South Africans in Ghana if I see them?”
