Former Chief Justice of Ghana, Her Ladyship Justice Sophia Akuffo, is set to be enstooled as the “Mmrahene” of the Akuapem Traditional Area in the Eastern Region.
The enstoolment ceremony, which is expected to attract traditional leaders, members of the Akuapem community, and well-wishers, will take place on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Okuapehene Palace in Akropong-Akuapem.
According to a public notice from the Traditional Council, the program will begin at 8:00 AM at Akuffo Fi, the home of the Akuffo descendants in Akropong-Akuapem. This will be followed by the main event at 10:00 AM during the Awukudae celebration at the same venue.

Justice Akuffo will bear the stool name Nana Abena Boafoa Akuffo and will be formally introduced to the Okuapehene, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, as part of the enstoolment process.
Sophia Akuffo is currently a member of the Council of State and has previously served as the President of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights and as Chairperson of the Governing Council at the University of Ghana (Legon).
