The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned social commentator Kevin Ekow Taylor over his public attack against former President John Agyekum Kufuor, calling on him to issue a public apology to the former statesman.
The NPP’s condemnation comes after Kevin Taylor labeled the former president as lazy and added that he should “stand up and walk.”
Reacting to the development, the NPP called out Kelvin Taylor’s actions and said they amounted to disrespect, urging him to stop the “sacrilege.”
“The NPP demands Kevin Taylor must issue a full, unqualified, and public apology to President Kufuor. This is not politics. This is desecration,” the party demanded in a statement signed by its Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah.
The statement reminded the commentator that former President John Agyekum Kufuor rescued this nation from economic collapse, strengthened our democracy, and earned the admiration of Ghana and the world.
It noted that former President Kufuor should not be regarded as a partisan target; rather, he should be seen as a father for all, adding that any society that permits the vilification of such a man without consequence has lost its moral footing.
According to the NPP, the NDC’s silence on the matter is not neutrality but complicity, given Kevin Taylor’s “deep and well-documented ties” to the NDC machinery, a situation it noted makes it impossible for the NDC to feign innocence.
It further asked the John Mahama-led NDC administration to immediately dissociate themselves from the attacks on the person and legacy of President Kufuor.
“There are lines that decency, culture, and conscience forbid us from crossing, and such behaviour is one of them. The NDC must decide whether it will stand with our shared cultural values or with the savagery of Kevin Taylor.”
The NPP believes that Ghanaians are watching and taking note of the indifference of the NDC and the Mahama administration.
