The 2024 election running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has advised the government against indulging in propaganda amidst the recent nationwide power outages.
He urged the government’s leadership to instead prioritise lasting solutions to the crisis.
NAPO’s call was made in a statement on his Facebook page while refuting claims that some NPP members in the Ashanti Region offered money to district directors of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to deliberately keep lights off in their areas.
The statement, issued on Friday, May 8, 2026, expressed concern over the government’s inability to urgently address worsening challenges in the power sector.
“At a time when Ghanaians are confronted with serious challenges in the power sector, the focus of government and its communicators should be on providing lasting solutions to the crisis and not manufacturing falsehoods, spreading smear narratives, and politicising matters that directly affect the lives of our people,” the post reads.
The former Energy Minister stressed that Ghanaians deserve honesty, accountability, and leadership committed to solving problems rather than creating distractions.
