Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has stated that it is both ethical and within his constitutional rights to call out judges who, in his view, fail to respect the law.
He made the remarks in a Facebook post on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, following his backlash at the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), about the judge presiding over the case involving Bono Regional NPP Chairman, Kwame Baffoe ‘Abronye’, and the State.
He stated “It is both ethical and within my constitutional rights to call out a Judge who has no respect for the law and the rights of citizens,” he wrote.
Afenyo-Markin alleged that there is a pattern in the conduct of the Circuit Court 9 judge in political cases, adding that he cannot respect a judge who does not uphold the law.
He further stated that the Minority Caucus in Parliament will not ignore the conduct of the judge, and that constitutional steps will be taken to rebuke him.
“Our law Lords are not above the law. Questioning the excesses of a Judge’s pattern of conduct does not amount to an attack on his person,” he added.
The Minority Leader also called on the Chief Justice to monitor the conduct of the Circuit Court 9 judge and ensure that he upholds the principles of judicial ethics.
